Wow. My second LCD Soundsystem farewell show @ Terminal 5. Definitely way crazier than the first night’s gig.

I nearly DIED when they broke into my absolute favorite Harry Nilsson song, “Jump Into the Fire,” during their encore. Check out Bromander-in-Chief James Murphy totally killing it in this video I took of the song:

VIDEO: “Jump Into the Fire” by LCD Soundsystem (Nilsson cover)

“I love you New York, but you’re bringing me down.”

Some random observations:

I kinda love LCD shows because it totally brings out the most ridiculously outfitted men:

  • So MANY freaking dudes in white shirts and black ties. I call it the “broniform.”
  • One dude wore a leather jacket the entire time while in the pit. Necessary.
  • Two guys behind me had homemade “DANCE YRSELF CLEAN” t-shirts (Hanes tees with Sharpie writing on them). I’m going to assume they came together…and that they went to braid each other’s hair and talk about James Murphy after the show.

The internet has already provided video for those who missed The Strokes performing “Taken for a Fool” on Letterman tonight:

Yes, “Friday” by Rebecca Black is the song that this great nation loves to hate. But you gotta admit, there is something to be said about a video that can capitivate/horrify millions of people.

Here are some cover versions of the now infamous song… TGIF?

Asian dude doing a pretty great a cappella version (actually makes the song sound pretty decent):

THE Rebecca Black doing an “unplugged” version of the song (who is that crazy dude off to the side who harmonizes with her?):

Man, daylight savings time has me all messed up!

I’ll be adding the fan videos and reviews of The Strokes’ Las Vegas show at The Cosmopolitan here as I find them. If you know of any, please email them to me or leave the links in the comments!

If you were a pre-teen girl in the early 1990s, then you probably were in love with the Disney movie musical Newsies. Since then it’s kinda become this cult classic musical theater nerd favorite — trust me, if you mention it to women in their late 20s/early 30s, they’ll probably squeal with delight.

Well it looks like a bunch of musically-inclined folks in Wisconsin have used the pro-union Newsies anthem “Seize the Day” to get their point across to legislators who want to pass a bill that would cut the rights of unions to collectively bargain:

I’m not sure that dressing up as 1890s newsboys is the most effective form of protest, but it sure is adorable.

On a side note, a staged production of Newsies is going to open up the 2011-2012 Paper Mill Playhouse season. Expect geeky pandemonium to ensue.

From TheStrokes.com, video with “You’re So Right” off the new album, Angles:

It’s a bit more of a low-key song, with a few dashes of classic Strokes blazing guitar solo mid-way through. I’m kinda digging Julian’s sparse vocals and precision drumming by Fab. The song has a bit of a dark, menacing sound, with an unnerving tension present during the verses.

Hey Rachel-

Remember when we went to Iceland and we literally stood inches away from Hot Club de Paris at 12 Tonar in Reykjavik? Remember how we basically had to dodge their guitars when they swung them while playing? Remember how we totally loved them and thought they were so awesome?

Well I’m happy to report that Hot Club de Paris is still making music. They just released Free the Prerodactyl 3, which is a compilation of EP releases from 2010. According to the HCdP website, you can get it on CD in Europe and download only in the US.

Here’s a video for their song “Free the Prerodactyl 3.” Yes, it reminds me a little bit of The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” meets the Polyphonic Spree, but I like it!

Later,
MM

PS – The same day we saw Hot Club de Paris we also saw lenticular clouds. It all comes around!

Dear Jesse Eisenberg,

I know that it’s been a really busy week for you and all, with receiving your first Oscar nomination, and rehearsing for your debut hosting gig on SNL this week, but I really do think you have enough time to shave off that soul patch situation going on. Please deal with that, Sir Eisenhair.

Thanks. Love ya!

So many shout outs to Table 114 on the Golden Globes. Who was sitting there? The Boardwalk Empire peeps, including Dougie Payne (bassist from Travis) and wife Kelly Macdonald (who I loved as Diane in Trainspotting), of course.

The legend that was Table 114

With those two amazing Scots, how could you go wrong?

Watch Steve Buscemi‘s win with a shout-out to “table 114″:

Other folks at the table, Buscemi’s wife Jo Andres, Steven Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw, Tom Hanks (who later gave a shout out to table 114) and wife Rita Wilson.

This post is devoted to Jesse Eisenberg‘s newly straightened hair — which apparently is for a movie role, which Jesse says he has to “look Catholic.”

This hair change is probably the most traumatic coiffure shocker since Jesse’s Zombieland co-star Emma Stone went from her trademark fiery red to a golden blonde for her role in the new Spider-Man movie (coincidentally starring The Social Network‘s Andrew Garfield).

Even though the slick new style is a bit of a shocker from Jesse’s naturally curly hairdo, I kinda like this new look.
