Your First Look: White Stripes “Conquest” Video

Hey guys, as I’m sure you know, there has been a bit of White Stripes news going down while I was on vacation. It seems as though I’m not the only one who has caught Spanish Fever, as the White Stripes will release a matador-inspired video for their song “Conquest.”

Here are some teaser shots of the video shoot as posted on the WS official site. The absolutely fantastic news is… Meg appears to be in the video:

Jack Picks Up Where Hank Left Off

According to NME.com:

The White Stripes’ frontman Jack White is currently working on a project to complete a series of unfinished Hank Williams songs.

Bob Dylan is co-ordinating efforts to get several artists to write and record music to accompany some of final lyrics written by the legend.

Jack reportedly worked on an unfinished Williams song called “You Know That I Know”.

The White Stripes “Backstage Pass” on MTVu

Although the White Stripes are not touring, you can still revel in Stripey love. Check out this interview on MTVu. Jack and Meg talk about how the Raconteurs helped the Stripes music, and of course–hating the internets and the digital world and how they fight against the instantaneous gratification by focusing on “long-lasting satistfaction.” Oooohhh yeaaahh:

The White Stripes’ Ominous Message Revealed: Limited Edition Cameras

Umm… can anyone explain this peculiar message that just went out on the White Stripes Official Mailing List?

Subject: ?

“The tricks of today are the truths of tomorrow.” – Man Ray X XV MMVII

The code-cracking has already started: X XV MMVII = 10/15/2007… So if anything, we will all find out on Monday.

UPDATE: You guys did some sleuthing, and it appears as though the message was referring to the sale of two limited edition Lomo cameras inspired and customized for Meg and Jack. They go onsale at 12 noon on Monday and the first 333 to buy both sets get a “mystery gift.”

Bob Dylan and Jack White “Meet Me In the Morning” MP3

You’ve heard about the landmark first time live performance of “Meet Me In the Morning” that Jack did with Bob Dylan at the 9/19 show in Nashville. But now you can actually hear it! Check out the MP3 of the song posted over at I Am Fuel, You Are Friends. If that site gets too slammed, you can also download from 12 Major Chords.

And as you also know by now, Jack came back on night two and did “One More Cup of Coffee” and “Outlaw Blues” (also a first for Dylan live). You Ain’t No Picasso had a great spin on these magical moments in rock, he pondered what he was doing at the very moment these truly awesome things were happening–turns out he was at “Applebees taking delight in their appetizers. I guess that’s sort of fair, you know?” Hahaha.

Meg White Definitely NOT In Sex Tape Scandal

Eagle-eyed readers pointed me to this news story from Pitchfork about the total FAKENESS of the “Meg White Sex Tape”. In a statement from the White Stripes’ publicist:

“Some people have a very twisted sense of humor and this prank is in particularly bad taste. The tape circulating on the internet as featuring Meg White is fake. It’s definitely not Meg.”

Now y’all can stop picking on Meg and let her be.

Please Be Kind to Miss Meg White

Ok, this morning I did not expect to be barraged with salacious images of one of the members of one of my favorite bands ever. I’m saddened by all of this. I have NOT watched the video nor have I even looked closely at the photos, so I cannot vouch for the validity of this leaked “sex tape.” There has been no official statement from the band over this matter–I can’t even figure out if a response is necessary. If in fact it is not Meg in the tape, than shame on whoever for creating such a vicious and horrible rumor.

No matter which way you slice it, this situation is unkind and I’m still wishing the best for Meg during this difficult time. She has always seemed to me to be a kind and sweet person, it’s just sad to see how much people are loving saying hurtful and mean things about her. Am I starting to sound like Chris “Leave Britney Alone” Crocker (who has newly platinum blond hair, btw)? Oh well, so be it.

Acute anxiety, also known as panic disorder, is characterized by “unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal distress.”

Oh, and to everyone who has been taking the piss and/or being vaguely insensitive to Meg’s mental health, shame on you. Blog No Dessert for You had a post earlier that claimed that they had been told by Austin City Limits concert producers, C3 Presents, that Meg had a “nervous breakdown” and joked “What’s your deal, Meg? You’re awesome, and your job ain’t that hard.” No Dessert for You has since detracted the post (which was titled “Girl, You Have No Faith in Therapy”), stating that they had received a “correction” from C3–aka, a freaked-out phone call from their source at C3.

I for one am impressed by the White Stripes’ being forthcoming about Meg’s condition (instead of just citing “exhaustion”) and hope that Meg gets better soon. If and when she is better, she very well might inspire people with the same problem to seek out help.

Well wishes, Meg!

UPDATE:
The White Stripes have canceled all tour dates through the end of the year. From the mailing list:
