Looks like Spoon front man Britt Daniel has had a change of heart when it comes to the White Stripes. According to a recent Pitchfork interview, he is backtracking on his “Small Stakes” lyric “I don’t dig the Stripes/ But I go for Har Mar”—now stating he’s a “big fan” and thinks “they’re doing something special.”
On the reasoning behind the new stance Daniel says, “I’m not afraid to admit it. I make mistakes.”
In related news, during the interview Daniel gives props to TMA fave and New York City artist Sean McCabe who did the cover of Gimme Fiction, stating that “It’s probably our best cover.”

I’ve heard these guys are good…
Mick Jagger, Jack White, and Keith Richards are on the cover to promote the new Martin Scorsese Rolling Stones film, Shine a Light, in which they all appear, natch.
From the official White Stripes newsletter:
The White Stripes are pleased to announce the release of “Conquista”, a Spanish language version of their current hit “Conquest”. The single will be released on CD and 7″ vinyl in the U.S on February 19th and in the U.K shortly after.
The release will appear credited to Las Rayas Blancas and comes with the following track listing:
1 or A. Conquista
2 or B. Conquest (Versión Acústica De Mariachi)
“Conquista” comes replete with its own Spanish language version of the Diane Martel video. The “Conquista” video will premiere on Mun2s The Shuffle on Thursday Feb 7th, along with an exclusive interview with Jack White. It will be aired again on Pepsi Música on Mun2 on Friday February 8th.
This sounds pretty awesome. Who wouldn’t want to hear Jack singing en espanol? Could the White Stripes do a reverse Shakira?
According to The Canadian Press:
Former Radio-Canada host Dominique Payette was stunned to discover a 10-second clip of her interview with a little girl at the top of “Jumble, Jumble” by the White Stripes.
She is suing the band, demanding $70,000 in damages and the removal of the album “De Stijl” from store shelves.
The song begins with Payette and a little girl talking in French about something the child has experienced “for the first time.”

Run, don’t walk! If you want to catch a glimpse of Mr. Jack White, who is surely supporting his lady love, Karen Elson and her new band “Birds,” playing at the Bowery Ballroom right now. Who else can you spot? Funny man Paul Rudd and the crew from the STELLA television show. Why are they all there? For the Barack Rock event headlined by Ok Go.
Word is Jack will not perform, but I’ll be the first to let you know if he does!
Yes, it’s obvious that Jack White sure does love Patti Page from the cover version of her 1952 hit, “Conquest,” that appears on the latest White Stripes album, Icky Thump. But USA Today was not content with the mere thought of a lovefest between them, they recently facilitated a phone conversation between the White Stripes frontman and the 80-year-old songstress.
Jack confesses to wanting to cover “Conquest” for 10 years, but it was only on this last album that he had the opportunity. Says White, “It finally came around because all the themes on the new Stripes record sort of revolved around role reversals, the underdog becoming the one in control. The lyrical message in Conquest is exactly what you root for in life with people you know. You hope they’ll have the sense to switch a situation around if they’re in peril. I love how bold the song is, and simple at the same time. It’s kind of irresistible.”

Hello hello. I’m officially a “homester” (aka, a person who thinks it’s cool to stay at home all the time).
So what do I do to pass the time as a homester? I watch television, of course. Since we got Showtime to watch Dexter–which is now on hiatus–I started to dig into the “On Demand” list and decided to check out an episode of this “Californication” show I’ve been hearing about starring David Duchovny. The show is AWESOME. I blew through all 12 episodes of season 1 in a matter of days. The greatest part of the show is that the episodes got BETTER as the season went on and the characters got more and more complex.
It’s a great ensemble cast, everyone is on point–even if it is a little weird seeing the little girl from “The Nanny” (Madeline Zima) all growns up and exposing her naked boobies. Oh, and if this will make you watch the show–boobies are a big part of almost every episode. The boob ratio is very high since David D’s character, Hank Moody, is a lover of the ladies. (Also why everyone calls this show “The Sex-Files”.)
And if boobies and hilarious, witty dialogue weren’t enough for you, Madeline Martin, who plays Hank Moody’s young daughter Becca, is a DEAD RINGER for a young Meg White of the White Stripes. Seriously, it’s creepy. Oh, and in the show her character is way into rock music and she even fronts her own little garage band called “Kill Jill.” Perfect.
Contrast and compare:

Jack White sat down for a mainly soft-ball interview with the Los Angeles Times. It’s mainly about how the White Stripes are still going strong, and how they have not stopped creating, although they have temporarily stopped touring. They recently recorded and collaborated songs with their friend Beck, setting up in his living room and laying down some tracks.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview:
At this point, White can’t predict how long the Stripes’ break will be or whether it will ever end. “I don’t know. It’s a good question,” he says. “I guess it’s up to her. . . . She seems to be lively. She was really invigorating working together on this ‘Conquest’ record. I was wondering if she was interested, and she was completely — very, very involved. And it was nice of Beck to give us that forum, help us re-understand what it is we’re doing.”
“And if something isn’t working for you and it’s detrimental to you, then you have to figure out a new way to attack it, a new way to look at it. I think that’s what Meg’s doing. . . . We’ll find our spots, we’ll find our moments. We already talked about other songs we’re working on.”
On doing a solo album Jack responds that he “doesn’t know” and that he’s “not there yet”, but the Raconteurs have half of their next album recorded and fans should expect something in 2008, complete with a tour.

On my list of things that I don’t ever want to do, right below “plummet to my death” and right above “get a rectal exam” you will see “piss off Jack White.” So it’s with great confusion that I read this fake blog entry by “Jack White” found on NewsGroper.
I can’t even go into the content of this remarkably unfunny post–it’s not even worth repeating because it’s so blatantly untrue. I just gotta ask, what in the world was this site thinking when the decided to write this piece of crap?
