Here he is when he did “I Taught Myself How To Grow Old” on Letterman a week or so ago. He so dreamy. His voice is SO killer these days. Simply beautiful. I love the no drinking.:
Holy crap! Ryan Adams is on TOP of his game! Tonight’s show at Hiro Ballroom was nothing short of stellar. The sound was crystal clear and Ry Ry’s voice sounded as pure as snow. He didn’t play any guitar, so he poured 110% of himself into his vocal performance. He did an amazing rendition of “I See Monsters” that made me want to throw up all over myself–that’s how good it was.
Uh… did someone bootleg it? That was truly a fantastic performance.
Ryan looked quite spiffy–somehow reminding me of a young Tom Cruise a la “Risky Business”–with a neat little hair cut, clean shaven, sunglasses, and a button down shirt, tie, and jacket.
Also I spotted former Adams flame, Parker Posey walking south a block from the venue–so it’s probably a safe bet that she was at the show.

Big piece on Ryan Adams in the New York Times this weekend. Features a photo of him with a haircut that makes him look like a lost member of The Stills. He’s still dreamy though. Super-excited for Easy Tiger to drop on June 26.
In the interview, Ryan talks candidly about his heavy drug abuse and his current road to recovery.
“My behavior was getting extreme,†he said, smoking an American Spirit. “I was running the risk of becoming one of those people who talks to himself all the time. I was about to walk over this line that there was no coming back from, and I could feel it. I was seeing ghosts and hearing stuff. Having horrible nightmares. I was creating as much distance from people as possible so that, in the event that something terrible happened, it wouldn’t hurt them.â€
Mr. Adams stood at the microphone, played a blistering riff and screeched a placeholder vocal: “This is where the verse is gonna go/And it’s gonna be emo.†He came back into the control booth, wrote the song’s actual lyrics (“I am the wizard … . The world is at your commandâ€), recorded the vocal and the song was done. On to the next one: “Cobra Kadabr
Later in the article he and girlfriend Jessica Joffe joke about how they helped each other get sober and blah blah blah…
This makes me very very VERY sad…. Blake from American Idols sings “Tim McGraw song, ‘When the Stars Go Blue‘.”
After you listen to how poorly he sings it, you can assume Ryan is dry heaving x10. Talk about insult to injury.
Check out the real deal. Beautiful, beautiful!:
Check out Ryan and the band performing “Goodnight Rose”, off Easy Tiger–Ryan’s upcoming album, on the Henry Rollins Show, airing this week on the IFC channel. Oh sweet sweet music! And oh sweet sweet return of the Batman tshirt…and a Ghostbusters pin?!?!
Also watch the 4-minute web exclusive interview with the band where (according to the press release) Ryan “talks about his musical influences—comparing Black Flag to the Dead and sharing his grandparents roll in introducing him to country music.”

Today is Easter Sunday. It’s the day when Christians remember that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and then rose from the dead. And according to what I’m going to write below, it’s also the day for us to remember that God also created Ryan Adams, and Ryan Adams is crazy for bananas.
Check out the new splash page on Ryan Minus Adams Dot Com–it’s a continuous flow of bananas falling from the sky as a guitar instrumental plays on a loop. Could this be a harbinger of his upcoming album, Easy Tiger? Or maybe he’s just a fan of the potassium-heavy fruit.
Speaking of Easy Tiger, check out Ryan’s back to rock hottie status on the cover of the album, obvious by the super-smoking leather blazer and carefully tousled hair shown on the black and white photo. It reminds me a lot of the delectable cover for Heartbreaker. Easy Tiger, indeed. Hahah. That just sounded really pervy. Sorry. That pointy little nose just gets me every time.
The album has a new (pushed-back) drop date of June 26, 2007.
Yessssss. I’ve been thinking a lot about Ryan Adams recently… maybe it has something to do with the Ryan Adams concert t-shirt I wear when I’m putzing around the house…or the Ryan Adams tote bag I use to shlep around papers… or the Ryan Adams Live in Jamaica DVD that Matt Music Slut bought me for my birthday earlier this month. Or maybe it’s all that crazy Ryan Minus Adams Dot Com biznatch he unleashes upon the world–which only makes me love him more.
Fresh from the press release machine, news of Ryan’s new (label-approved) material:
Ryan Adams’ Easy Tiger has been scheduled for a June 5 release on Lost Highway.
While the final sequence is still TBD, Easy Tiger will be comprised of the following tracks: “Goodnight Rose”, “Everybody Knows”, “The Sun Also Sets”, “Halloween Head”, “Off Broadway”, “Two Hearts”, “Tears Of Gold”, “These Girls”, “Two”, “I Taught Myself How To Grow Old”, “Oh My God, Whatever, Etc.”, “Rip Off”, and “Pearls On A String”.
Easy Tiger will be Ryan Adams’ ninth full length collection of new studio recordings.
Did anyone else see America with special guests Ryan Adams and Ben Kweller last night on Letterman? I just saw it on the DVR and WTF Ryan wearing a Rocawear shirt?!? And why does he look half drunk while holding a bag of chips in this photo from the Ventura Highway site
And as the Backseat Blogger commented, what was up with Ben Kweller looking like a scrappy young pauper stuck in the corner a la Oliver?
Holy CRAP AND A HALF! I love love LOVED Ben Kweller’s latest self-titled album. And everyone knows I love love LOVE Ryan Adams. So I almost vomited all over myself when I read this news on BK’s official site today: BEN KWELLER AND RYAN ADAMS are BOTH performing “Ride On” with ’70s rock icons, America, on the David Letterman show on January 16th!!!!
Both Ryan and BK are guesting on America’s newest album, Here and Now, which is dropping on the 16th as well.
Listen to all the tracks right here.
Or go straight to streaming “Ride On” (featuring Ryan and Ben): Right here.
