Earlier this month I headed north with a bunch of friends and spent Labor Day weekend up in the glorious state of Maine. What a beautiful place! We rented a house in Rockport and with the threat of Hurricane Earl rearing his ugly head the next day, we decided to take in some local flavor by heading to the nearby candlepin bowling alley for some good ol’ fashioned fun.
I’d never been candlepin bowling before, and let me tell you, it is way more fun than regular bowling. No sticking your fingers in disgustingly grimy bowling balls — you just pick up the hand-sized balls and try to knock down the ten little pins.
The place was empty — except for a young wedding party who had rented out arcade. When the newlyweds and co left, we basically had the run of the place. We bowled for at least two hours, with the total bill coming to a whopping 20 some odd dollars. [click to continue…]
Just announced! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs to play an intimate NYC gig open to the public on Sept 22nd.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow at Secret Project Robot at 128 River Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn between 6-8pm. $20 per ticket, limit 2 per person and must have ID. Tickets will NOT be sold day of — so tomorrow is the only chance of getting one.

Like many peeps who weren’t able to make it to The Strokes hometown return at the ultra-exclusive Tommy Hilfiger 25th Anniversary party at the Metropolitan Opera House night, I had a super-intense dream I was seeing the Strokes (in some dingy LA club for some reason).
But alas, the dream wasn’t true…but what did happen was that 1,200 invited guests (including folks like Neil Patrick Harris, the cast of Gossip Girl, and J. Lo, Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks, according to NYMag.com and NYLON) were treated to an 8-song set on the terrace level of the venerable opera house.
I’ve scoured the internet, and these are the top things I think you’ll want to know that went down at the gig:
1. Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, always a snazzy dresser, was wearing a black leather jacket, a (yellow?) baseball cap, and white sunglasses.
