Last night while watching Jimmy Fallon, I witnessed the single greatest moment of TV I’ve seen all month — Jimmy pretending to be Neil Young, covering the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” theme song. It’s so perfect, and dare I say beautiful.

Once again another stellar show from The Dead Weather, this time at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.

The band performed songs off their debut album, Horehound, as well as one new song, “No Horse”:

Last night I went to the NYPL Live event featuring a conversation between filmmakers Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach. I’ll be honest, I never was huge fans of either of them before going into the talk, but now consider me among the converted.

Their two hour long talk — where they divulged some of the details of the inspiration for their collaboration on their new movie, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the stories behind some of their previous work — was one of the most engaging, entertaining, and absolutely fun times I’ve ever had listening to two people speak.

Hopefully I’ll have time to write about it more, but some of the most hilarious stories included a scene witnessed by Wes Anderson during a rehearsal for a concert organized by Sheryl Crow in which estranged best friends Keith Richards and Eric Clapton had an awkward moment, and another tale in which Wes and Noah were looking through the archives of Robert Dahl and Dahl’s son revealed to them a pornographic story idea that his father had written down. (“She needs a belly full of hot c-m.”)

Afterwards I was lucky enough to attend a soiree for the Young Lions donors at the library, where Wes and Noah stopped by to mingle with guests. Of course they couldn’t even get past the door jam, but they were very nice and kind to everyone who approached them to talk.

Short little video of some tiny video clips I took:

Kate Moss writhing around in ecstasy + Depeche Mode‘s “I Feel You” = a smoking hot commercial for YSL’s new perfume, “Parisienne”:

Now that I’ve had a chance to listen to it — my take on Julian Casablancas’s new album, Phrazes for the Young:

“It sounds like a Strokes album from the future, recorded in 1985 — liking it.”

Julian will do a host of shows in LA this month, then off to the UK. For those in NYC, you’ll have until January, when Julian will do a residency in his hometown at a TBD NYC venue.

Here’s Julian’s appearance on Conan O’Brien last week:

Today Julian Casablancas‘s debut solo album, Phrazes for the Young is now out in stores and on iTunes for only $4.99.

Of course the question is… What do y’all think of it?

Video from last night’s secret show at Spaceland is now up on the YouTube:

Some folks who bought the deluxe edition are reporting difficulties with their digital downloads. Anyone else having these issues?

The impending Spider-Man musical (Spider-Man Turn on the Dark) makes me giggle with delight. It seems like possibly the worst and best idea I’ve ever heard. I love Julie Taymor, so I’m definitely going to see it, and the idea that Bono and the Edge are doing the music makes it even more intriguing.

The concept of a guy in a Spider-Man costume singing… it’s just beyond words.

I just imagine the entire show looking like this:

Although it’s already been announced that Evan Rachel Wood (who also starred in Taymor’s Beatles musical, Across the Universe) will play Mary Jane and Alan Cumming (another Taymor alum — he was in Titus) will be playing the Green Goblin, there has been no announcement as to who will be playing Peter Parker himself.

The super-cute Jim Sturgess has done workshops of the musical during its development, but so far has not signed on to be Spidey.

Which leads me to the following bit of amusing info. Writes a long-time reader from Norway:

Yes, I’m JUST getting caught up with CMJ right now as I’m sitting here watching the World Series (no, I’m not sure why I’m watching).

Here are a few photos from the excellent After the Jump showcase that we held at the beautiful Brooklyn Bowl on Oct 24th. Seriously, if you have not been to Brooklyn Bowl yet, run don’t walk.

It’s such a great space — you can tell the owners really took the time to get things right. Not only is there one of the most classy looking bowling alleys you’ll ever see, there is a bar with local beer, a delicious Blue Ribbon restaurant, AND a kick-butt stage for bands to play, adjacent to the lanes.

Enough gushing! On to the photos.

Harlem (from Austin, TX) drew a great crowd with their fun and quirky rock songs. Not hard to understand why Matador Records recently signed these guys up:
