According to a new Music Radar interview with Jack White, it looks as though the White Stripes will soon be back together, releasing an album sometime in the near future–possibly next year.

White told Music Radar’s Joe Bosso that the Stripes had begun working on some new tunes even prior to their February 20th performance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, “We had recorded a couple of songs at the new studio,” said White. When asked when fans could expect the duo to return back to recording White responded, “I talked to [Meg] about coming by when I was done in the summer rehearsing with The Dead Weather – I won’t be done in the summer touring with them, but after the summer jaunt.”

Remember hearing about the project that The Strokes‘ frontman Julian Casablancas was working on for the Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse new collaborative album, Dark Night of the Soul? Well it appears as though the song, “Little Girl,” along with the rest of the album was accidentally leaked in an audio stream on the web last night by the UK Chrysalis Music Group’s official blog. Whoops!

Although the album is no longer available to stream, some enterprising young folks were quick to snap up the audio…so get a listen of Julian’s vocals on “Little Girl” right below:

What do you think of the new ditty?

Looks like B and Little J are at it again–except this time in real life. Sensing a complete void in the actress-slash-singer market, Leighton Meester (aka GG’s Blair Waldorf) and Taylor Momsen (aka Jenny Humphrey) have come to the rescue, both unleashing their musical poweress upon the world in the very same week.

Let’s examine the contestants, and who won the war of the Gossip Girl singers this week.

ROUND 1: TAYLOR MOMSEN’S PRETTY RECKLESS DEBUT
Momsen struck first, with her band Pretty Reckless performing at The Annex on Tuesday…and judging by the available video (below), her growling vocals and saucy Courtney Love-meets-Debbie Harry onstage moves make for a surprisingly pleasing combination.

Just wanted to bring your attention to some relatively recent developments that have been occurring in the sidebar over yonder.

As you may have noticed, the section called “Random Interesting Stuff” is updated nearly every day and is powered by my Tumblr feed.

It’s where I include links for interesting things found ’round the web (musical and otherwise) that tickle my fancy.

You can also follow me on Twitter to find out the latest updates and random ruminations.

Little Boots has steadily become one of the rising stars of the independent British female pop star phenomenon. In preparation of the June 9th UK release of her first full-length album, Hands (and a US-only EP called “Illuminations”), she will be performing a special show here in NYC on May 18th at Le Poisson Rouge. This is the only US performance currently scheduled for the new queen of electropop over the next few months.

Want to win a pair of tickets to the NYC show? Just answer the following (super easy) question:

What US late night talk show devoted an entire episode to Little Boots earlier this year?

Just send an email with the answer and your full name to contest @ themodernage.org with “LITTLE BOOTS” in the subject line.

The first two people to answer the question correctly will each win a pair of tickets to the concert!

I just got a chance to listen to “I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week,” the single off of Mandy Moore‘s new album, Amanda Leigh, which is dropping on May26.

Is it just me, or is this song kinda catchy?

Mandy looks ridiculously pretty in the video. I’m gonna go stuff my face with cookies to cope.

Mandy plays a sold out show at Joe’s Pub on June 3rd.

Quickly, the charity performance of artists who have appeared on Dark Was the Night compilation was at Radio City Music Hall last night. Amidst rumors of Blonde Redhead and Sufjan Stevens playing, neither group/performer got onstage at the event.

The bands who actually did perform were:

Dirty Projectors
My Brightest Diamond
The National
Dave Sitek (from TV on the Radio)
David Byrne

[Intermission]
Bon Iver
Feist
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

[Encore] Tribute to Pete Seeger with all bands (and a random appearance by St. Vincent – aka Annie Clark) singing altogether a song Seeger made famous “This Land Is Your Land,” with Sharon Jones busting out solo into a sassy rendition of the song a quarter of the way through (below).

Rob Sacher, the mastermind behind Luna Lounge (both the NYC and Williamsburg incarnations) will finally be opening his new space, Satellite Lounge at 143 Havemeyer Street (between South 1st and 2nd), this weekend.

Sacher has said that the new venue is small in scale–it will hold 60-70 people (more along the lines of the original Luna Lounge in the LES) and will play a mix of old and current indie rock, but will not host live shows.

Sacher will host a series of grand opening events on Friday and Saturday to christen the new place. See below:
