Check out their new story highlighting Albert’s new custom-built three bedroom farmhouse situated in Eldred, NY. “This is exactly what I need to slow things down; to feed my creativity and my soul,” Albert tells the Post.

Longtime readers will remember that my mom loves Keane. So who else could I take to the Keane show at Radio City tonight but my mommy dearest? The show, with its long set, and multiple (two) encores clocked it at nearly one hour and a half long—that’s 90 minutes of sheer happiness for my mom.
I’ll admit, there’s a bit of a twinge of teenage angst that goes along with bringing Mom to a concert—especially when my mom starts to dance along to the music (“Mom! You’re embarrassing me in front of all my friends!,” I mentally shout.)—but as a whole it’s a fun time taking my mom to see one of her favorite bands (aka Keane or Coldplay).
For me, one of the best part of going to see a show with my mom is that unlike my regular concert companions, who like me go to shows on a weekly basis and are completely jaded/spoiled by it all, my mom is genuinely excited about nearly everything involving the concert. Her reaction reminds me a lot of what I was like as a teenager going to see Alanis Morissette at Jones Beach, or say Duncan Sheik at a Virgin Megastore Instore.
Mom gets really pumped up about going, often calling me up the night before to say that she “just can’t wait” for the show and that she’s been listening to the new album non-stop. And when she gets there she’s super interested in buying some of the merch so she can show it off to all her friends at work the next day. And forget about when the actual concert starts—Mom is literally jumping up and down and clapping her hands.

So to say the least, my mom really really really enjoyed Keane’s performance tonight—and I’ll admit, I enjoyed quite a bit of it myself. As I’ve noted before, Keane fans are particularly excited about being at the show, as displayed by the eruption of thunderous cheers and applause that sprung up as soon as the lights went down and the band took the stage.

According to the official White Stripes website, this weekend White Stripes drummer Meg White and her fiance Jackson Smith officially tied the knot as part of a double wedding staged in Jack White‘s backyard in Nashville, TN. Smith is the son of rockers Patti Smith and Fred (Sonic) Smith (MC5) and was the guitarist in the recently disbanded Detroit group Back in Spades.
The May 22nd wedding also served as a ceremony to Raconteurs and Dead Weather bassist Jack “Little Jack” Lawrence to his girlfriend Jo McCaughey.
The couples were wed by former Soledad Brothers‘ drummer, and long time White Stripes friend, Benjamin (Ben) Swank.
Congratulations to the happy couples!
FUN FACT: Ben Swank was the inspiration behind the Von Bondies song “Been Swank.”

The folding of music mag Blender Magazine earlier this year seems to be just the beginning for even harder times upon the already struggling print music magazine industry.
Two weeks ago indie-rock based Paste Magazine put a plea out to their readers to donate money in order help save the magazine from closing. (In exchange donors receive access to 70+ “rare and exclusive tracks” from artists like Of
Montreal, The Decemberists, Indigo Girls and She & Him.)
Now hot on the heels of that news comes word that renegade UK rag Plan B has decided to pull the plug on their operation. This saddens me deeply, as Plan B, and it’s predecessor Careless Talk Costs Lives were among some of the very few smart, original, and far from cliched music mags out there.
How do you feel about all the recent closings of the world’s music publications? Are there some you are glad to see go (and some you are hoping will fade away)?

Even though the band has only played one public live show (right here in NYC), The Dead Weather have managed to swing their first music magazine cover–the brand new issue of SPIN magazine.

If you ever tried imagining where Albert Hammond, Jr. rests his pretty little head at night, wonder no more. Today you have a chance to get a first-hand look at the private quarters of The Strokes guitarist. Albert’s two-bedroom East Village apartment has newly re-emerged on the real estate market, on sale for the low low asking price of $899,000.
The co-op pad at 141 East 3rd Street was originally listed for $1.199 million last August, but the buyer dropped out. The apartment was listed again at $999,000, but vanished from real estate sites by January. According to the NY Post, Albert bought the place in 2005 for $770,000.
With the lone exception of three strategically placed guitars in the foyer, living room, and bedroom as well as a stack of records in the living area, nothing in the photos of the apartment screams “rock musician living quarters.” In fact, the pictures reveal that the 1,200 square foot abode to be nearly obsessive compulsively clean. It’s partly due to some minor restaging by someone… looks as though Albert’s makeshift recording studio has appropriately been converted into a bedroom scene for the opening:

Last night the budding British pop diva Little Boots played a rowdy show at Le Poisson Rouge here in NYC. I’ll be updating this space later with more information, but I believe a good time was had by all.

It seems that recently everyone I know has decided to go to Barcelona, Spain. I went a couple of years ago, so I’m deciding to just put all my tips about the great city all in one place for everyone to read. (Feel free to add your picks in the comments.) Check it out:
HOTELS
A hotel I really wanted to stay in was the Hotel Banys Oriental. It’s moderately priced, and is very sleek and modern, but unfortunately it was all booked up by the time I got around to securing a room. It’s in the SoHo-ish area of Barcelona, meaning hip, but slightly fancy. The area is a little bit on the more expensive side in terms of restaurants and stores, but a nice area right of La Rambla.
COOL NEIGHBORHOOD
I especially liked the El Raval area of Barcelona, which is the southwest side of La Rambla. It can get kind of dodgy at night (there was literally one street we walked down where I think it was all drunk people and prostitutes), but just stay on the main streets and know where you’re going and you’ll be good. It’s fine in the daytime as well.
Cool hip restaurants are scattered throughout the area and it’s the “ethnic” area of Barcelona–but a very up-and-coming neighborhood. In NYC terms, it’s kinda like the equivalent of the Lower East Side/Chinatown.
The contemporary art museum Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) is in the area, as well as Barcelona University which means the area has lots of young hip kids running around.
