Hello hello. As you may recall, since 2007 I’ve had an obsession with the Norwegian singer Ida Maria. I randomly found out about here when I was checking out the winners in a Norwegian contest for unsigned artists. When I took a listen of the track “Oh My God,” (which you can now hear all over those “Gossip Girl” tv ads) I was immediately in love and I hailed her as a promising Band of the Day.
Ida Maria is also bringing her live show to a town near you, and I definitely urge you to check her out. When I saw her first American show in 2007 at the Knitting Factory, she was amazing–rolling around on the floor, knocking the drum kit over, having a ball of a time.
She was flown over and housed in a swanky Parisian hotel by the Italian leather goods company Fendi in exchange for performing “a ’secret’ hourlong set for the invited elite at a club appropriately known as the VIP Room,” according to the Times.
The fearless fashionista, who has taken to wearing designer duds by fashion world darlings like Jeremy Scott, has recently been deluged with fashion invites as a result of her daring nude Love cover and has quickly made friends with some bold faced names like fellow rebel Kate Moss, who was at The Gossip’s Fendi gig alongside boyfriend Jamie Hince of The Kills.
At the Fendi party, Beth sang a selection of new songs as she stripped down to a dazzling pair of sequined bra and undies. “In a final act of defiance,” reports the Wall Street Journal, “she dived off stage onto several members of the audience.”
Check out video of Beth’s stage dive and crowd surfing below. No, the girl Beth pulled up from the crowd wasn’t Kate Moss (it’s actually a young member of the Fendi clan), but you can see Kate help Beth up toward the end:
Some people obsessively like to paint, others like to create a plethora of websites, Jack White likes to create musical supergroups. Mr. White’s record label, Third Man Records, has revealed its latest band- The Dead Weather, which is fronted by The Kill’s Alison Mosshart, and includes The Raconteurs‘ Jack Lawrence on bass, Dean Fertita from Queens Of The Stone Age on guitar and Jack White on drums and vocals.
The group recently christened the opening of the new Third Man Records in downtown Nashville by performing songs from their upcoming album, Horehound, to a crowd of 150 people.
Weren’t lucky enough to be one of those folks in the crowd? The album, which is scheduled to be released in June, features the song “Hang You From The Heavens,” which can currently be downloaded off of iTunes.
I know many of you just DO NOT CARE about anything vaguely emo, but since I’ve kind of thrown So More Scene by the wayside, this needs to go on here.
I love Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. He’s so dishy. Here he is at the Watchmen premiere (My Chem does a cover version of “Desolation Road”…yes, it’s awful, but I love it anyway), talking about his own comic project, the Umbrella Academy:
According to a recent interview with Johnjay & Rich, Miley Cyrus confessed that at the latest Grammy Awards she was snubbed by her most favorite band in the world, the group who made her love music…Radiohead, obviously.
The band, who was performing at the awards ceremony, was stationed in a dressing room four doors down from the pop princess. Miley had her manager request that she get an audience with the famously anti-social band. When they denied the request she was shocked and appalled, citing that she thought they were very “rude” for saying no.
According to Miley, she had already texted all her friends bragging that she was going to meet them, and when her wish did not come true she was so devastated by the experience that she left the awards ceremony immediately afterward and missed their live performance on the show.
In the interview Miley also states that her new mission is to “ruin” Radiohead as a result of their dis on her. Good luck with destroying the careers of one of the biggest recording artists in the world, Miley.
Listen to the full snippet of the interview in which Miley discusses her non-run in with Radiohead:
Methinks Miley comes off as a bit bratty in this interview…I can understand being upset that your favorite band does not want to meet you, even for a minute, but when that band is well-known for hating publicity, really Miley, are you that surprised?
On the upside, Miley finds Chris Martin to be supernice…
Saw this @jenc’s tweet re: this video of a group of girls playing MGMT’s “Kids” entirely on iPhone apps.
The group of ladies who are performing the song on their iPhones and iPod Touches are a British quartet called The Mentalists. The band, which was formed in 2006, cites MGMT among their influences alongside Jimi Hendrix Experience, Flaming Lips, and The Beatles.
The apps used on the video were Ocarina, Retro Synth, miniSynth, DigiDrummer Lite.
Ok, so I didn’t get a day off, and the snow actually made me dread getting up this morning, but the snow is pretty from inside. The challenge is trying to get from point A to point B. Not so fun.
