Back from My Vacation!

I took a much-needed vacation last week to Ocean City, Maryland. (I know, not as glamorous as say… the Riviera or Belize… but there was a beach!)

Sure it looks warm but it was freeeeezzziinnnnggg

I got to freeze my buttocks off by the seaside. (Beaches are not perpetually warm… even in September.) I felt the strongest winds of my life, which made the sand feel like a million little tetanus shots pricking my bare legs. The gusts of winds were so strong, that while I was riding a bike down the boardwalk, I went a length of about 30 blocks without pedaling ONCE (I kid you not!).

I saw some *interesting* things when I headed “downtown”…

Perhaps they have these kind of shirts all across beach towns in the US, but all I could say was OMGWTF?

RENT: Live on Broadway This Week!

Hey guys! Right now I’m literally looking outside the window onto the beach. Yup, it’s a Modern Age vacation. Anyhoo I needed to make sure I told you guys about one thing before I completely detach from the world. (Do you know how hard it is to blog from someone’s iPhone?)

The thing I wanted to mention is the Hot Ticket showings of RENT: Live On Broadway, which is going on this week starting on Wednesday, Sept 23rd and playing again on Thursday, Saturday, and Saturday.

I went to an advanced screening last week, and let me tell you, it’s really well done and a joy to watch.

Buy tickets for one of the four showings at The Hot Ticket.

PS- Back to blogging on September 29th!

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals to Release “Cardinology” Oct 28

Official news from Ry Ry and the band: They will release a new album entitled Cardinology on October 28, 2008. Ryan will also release his first book, Infinity Blues, on March 16, 2009 (Akashic Books).

Read the press release for the full deets:

The Cardinals–Ryan Adams (vocals, guitar, keys), Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Chris Feinstein (bass, vocals), Jon Graboff (pedal steel, vocals) and Brad Pemberton (drums)–have confirmed an October 28 release for Cardinology, the band’s latest collection of all-new studio material for the Lost Highway label. They will return to their TV-home-away-from-home, THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, the following evening.

Like its predecessor Easy Tiger, which TIME magazine hailed as “a career breakthrough,” Cardinology is a concise and focused collection of twelve unadorned gems, the final sequence of which will be:

Born Into A Light

Go Easy

Fix It

Magick

Cobwebs

Let Us Down Easy

Crossed Out Name

Natural Ghost

Sink Ships

Evergreen

Like Yesterday

Stop

First single “Fix It” will be digitally released to radio Tuesday, September 23, while “Stop” will receive a sneak premiere in the Tuesday, September 30 episode of THE CLEANER on the A&E network (check local listings).

Jack White Unknowningly Gets Coca-Cola Ad Encore

You’ve probably heard about Jack White’s version of “Another Way to Die” being used in a sad advert for Coke Zero. (Uh… I guess zero calories is supposed to be manly? And sexy? How else could James Bond keep the pounds off, eh?)

Now Jack is letting the world know he’s just a bit more than just disappointed that they’ve gone and used his song for the commercial with a public statement:

Jack White was commissioned by Sony Pictures to write a theme song for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, not for Coca-Cola. Any other use of the song is based on decisions made by others, not by Jack White. We are disappointed that you first heard the song in a co-promotion for Coke Zero, rather than in its entirety.

What do you think Jack objects to the most: 1. Not having full control over the release of his song 2. Not getting the joy of handcrafting another Coca-Cola jingle? As you probably remember, Jack wrote a widely debated tune for a Coca-Cola advert in 2006.

I can think we all agree Jack’s original work with Coca-Cola was visually and conceptually far superior than this tie-in schlock.

UPDATE: As someone mentioned in the comments, I’m sad to say that Nagi Noda, the Japanese director of the Coca-Cola ad, died on September 7th due to complications from an accident she was in earlier this year. The world has lost a truly talented and inspiring individual.

Agyness Deyn, Raquel, and More Models at V Magazine Party

More eye candy for ya…

The weird space hill up on the Mini Space Roof… Images from V Magazine projected on the billboard.

Spencer Product spins while Agyness Deyn poses. A black one-piece with black silky turban, and impossibly high studded heels. Only she could pull it off!

Lykke Li Performs for Drunks, Models, and Fashionistas

Tonight’s V Magazine party at the Mini Space Roof was chock full o’ beautiful people…Agyness, Raquel, Irina, Karlie, and many many more. But I was most excited to see the Swedish singing sensation, Lykke Li.

Wearing a loose black shirt and pants outfit that looked like a chic genie, she wooed the crowd with her beautiful, child-like voice.

The reality TV junkie that I am, I completely FLIPPED out when I saw Rachel Zoe. I love love LOVE her Bravo show, The Rachel Zoe Project. She was super nice, and looked fab…and actually not as skinny as I thought she’d be–don’t get me wrong, she’s TINY, but not horrifyingly so.

Poor Noel Gallagher Cannot Catch a Break

Why is God always kicking the crap out of the kinder, gentler Gallagher brother? In 2002 Noel Gallagher was involved in a serious head-on collision while riding in a car with other band members of Oasis…brother Liam was in a separate car.

Then this past weekend, a man jumped on stage during their Toronto show and shoved poor Noel into his monitor speakers, causing bruising to his ribs and hips. Perhaps the dude was really pissed that they were singing “Morning Glory.” Perhaps, “Don’t Look Back in Anger” would have been better…

Oasis is still scheduled to perform this Friday in NYC.

Watch the incident:

Wednesday In the Park with Luke

This week British boy wonders The Kooks will be playing Rumsey Playfield at Central Park with New York rockers Stellastarr*. Rounding up the lineup are Illinois and Marques. Sounds like an absolutely lovely way to spend a summer evening, no?

Anyone Else Once Totally Obsessed with “Center Stage”?

You know, Center Stage… the best movie ever after Newsies?

Well, I totally loved that movie when it came out in 2000. (Remember the dance sequence at the end of the movie?? I’ve never been able to listen to Jamiroquai w/out thinking of CS ever since then.) And even though Ethan Stiefel’s acting was like SO BAD, I was so in love with Sascha Radetsky AND this amazingly pretty girl that was also in the film, Zoe Saldana.

As you probably know, Zoe Saldana went on to make an awful movie with Britney Spears called “Crossroads” and has appeared in other films like “Vantage Point”, and “Drumline.” But there will always be a soft spot in my heart for Miss Zoe Saldana no matter what she does.

So today I mini raised the roof when I saw Miss Zoe coming out of DVF today…

None of these people over the age of 30 have any idea who she is…
