Quintessential Converse poster boy Julian Casablancas (of The Strokes, obvs) has joined forces with producing powerhouse Pharrell Williams and the eclectic recording artist Santogold to record a track to hock some kicks.

Reports the Guardian:

The new untitled song is “such a Pharrell track”, Santogold said. We hope this means it recalls the heights of Justin Timberlake and not the lows of Skateboard P.

A video has also been shot, in which we assume Converse trainers will feature prominently.

Finally, if anyone’s worrying that this kind of arbitrary commissioned project might somehow be lacking in a clear, creative vision, Santogold offers the following lucid insight: “Everybody on it does their own separate thing and we didn’t do it together so it ends up being just this weird long song with sort of everybody with lots of their own personalities separate.”

It’s enough to make us long for Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney on a horse-drawn wagon.

In 2006, Julian’s bandmate Nick Valensi‘s wife Amanda de Cadenet shot the John Varvatos for Converse ad campaign.

As you might already know, I love Coldplay and have been a long-time fan, but I’m not above pointing out how ridiculous they are–and by “they” I mean “Chris.” I am simultaneously interested and embarrassed by everything they do.

As I’ve already established, Coldplay have a long track record of creating the ugliest album covers known to man, and their newest for Viva la Vida is no different.

But one day last week as I was staring at the album cover, screaming “WHY? WHY? WHY?,” I realized that the image reminded me of another of my embarrassingly beloved band’s work…My Chemical Romance.

Coldplay has released their “music video” (aka- weekly political statement) for their new single, “Violet Hill.”

The video features various clips of current, former, and future world leaders such as George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Saddam Hussein, Tony Blair, Boris Yeltsin, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama, among others. Most of the clips have been spliced and looped to make the politicians look ridiculous dancing, singing, playing instruments, etc. Intercut are scenes of mass destruction (rockets, explosions, etc.) and war.

Clearly the video takes aim at world governments and their proclivity to war, and Coldplay’s stance against it.

What do you think: Commendable? Comical? or Catastrophic?

As you’ve probably already seen, some more pix of Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have surfaced. Here they are at Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, California… and much has been made about the precariously “familiar” position of his hands on La Moore.

I had the following conversation with my friend:

RyanLvr: Are they datinggg?
TMA: Dunno, does going to comic book stores constitute dating?
RyanLvr: Hahaha. Come on, hes TOUCHING her! My guy friends don’t touch me like that unless they’re gay–and HE’S NOT.

All I care about is the fact that Ryan still looks like Boober (natch) from Fraggle Rock.

boober

Looks like all that cooing blogging about how great “M” is payed off. Well played, Mr. Adams.

Adam Green at Town Hall tonight was hilarious, entertaining, and uplifting. Decked out in a long-sleeved black shirt with white fringe and white jeans, Adam pranced around the stage like a giddy boy practicing being a rock star in his bedroom–self-continuously chuckling at the audience.

Humorous inter-song banter included comments about Chris O’Donnell (“I feel like Batman’s Robin. Like Chris O’Donnell. He never quite made it to being successful…unlike myself.”) and shouting from the audience (“Are you guys Italian? I love Italian people.”).

During “Dance with Me” a throngs of kids bum-rushed the stage–one kid even made it onto the stage before being asked by security to get down.

The guest list included friend Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes, Catherine Pierce, singer-cum-model Agyness Deyn, and the Five O’Clock Heroes’ Anthony Ellis.

About a week after he had his own Superman moment, Jack White made a rare public appearance with his wife, supermodel Karen Elson, to the opening of the “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala on Monday, May 5th.

Following the footsteps of his White Stripes bandmate, Meg White (who attended the event in 2006), Jack and Karen were both dressed in Marc Jacobs–she in a red wine-colored floor-length gown, and he in a black and white tuxedo.
