honestly who cares about the success of a group who don’t really need to be successful because their parents are so wealthy? part of jack white’s appeal was that he came from nothing, he is a self made man.

but the strokes?

eh.

unless they create an amazing album, its probably time to bow out gracefully.

furthermore, comparing the strokes and the white stripes you begin to see where the strokes went wrong (besides making horrible follow up albums).

releasing an album on a commercial label after only making ONE indie ep? the white stripes cultivated their sound and recorded dozens of songs before their first semi commercial album elephant. they had already refined and established their sound before hitting critical mass.

the strokes were not given their opportunity.

historically a band that does what the white stripes did often has a longer life span. look at metallica’s magnum opus’s in the 80s (before their horrible post 1990 career), their best work was behind them before they penetrated mainstream culture.

the strokes, perhaps too eager for success, decided not to refine their sound before getting signed to a major label.
