Strokes Update: Fourth Album In the Works!

Yessss! Hello excitement! Just when you’d totally resigned yourself to forever hearing Albert Hammond Jr. referenced as a solo artist, Strokes bassist Nikolai Fraiture has given hope to all the er… Strokesheads … out there with his most recent post to the official Strokes website.

Says Nikolai, “I’m still looking very forward to a fourth album release. We just need to work out a few technical kinks…It’s been a long break but much needed for us to remain together as a productive band.”

During the “extended break” from The Strokes, Nikolai has been working on some personal projects–music of his own (which he promises will surface in the near future), and putting together a short film entitled “A Kind of Dream”. The movie is a 30 minute black and white film written and directed by Fraiture’s college friend Danny Velez with music composed by Nikolai. According to the official info on the film, “It was shot over 4 to 5 days during the spring of 2003 by Clara Roberts-Oss.”

Here is a scene from the film:

Hi Everyone!

Here’s another update for you guys.

First, I’d like to say that I’m still looking very forward to a fourth album release. We just need to work out a few technical kinks…

Second, here are some other things I’ve been doing while waiting for all of us to get back into the studio. It’s been a long break but much needed for us to remain together as a productive band. “A Kind of Dream” will see a release some time in the next couple of months. For all info on that, go to the Myspace page previously mentioned. It is $9.99 + s/h and as it was filmed in New York, I will be giving my share of the proceeds to the Bowery Mission.

In order to not go completely insane during this extended break, I’ve been working on some music, including some covers, which I will be posting soon.

For more info, stay tuned here for the link.

Also, we’re taking part in a shoe auction for children affected by land mines in war-afflicted countries. It’s called “Give Land Mines the Boot.” Here is the link: www.mag.org.uk. The signed boots I’m putting up for auction are the only pair I wore from ’99-03 and in the film “A Kind of Dream.”

Thanks for your support and being so patient with us.

The best to you all,
Nikolai

  1. i saw this last week and my outlook on life has seriously improved 100 fold. haha, but seriously i can’t wait to hear the new album. it’s been a looooooong time.

  2. strokesheads

    all 5 of them.

they really fell off after their first album.

honestly who cares about the success of a group who don’t really need to be successful because their parents are so wealthy? part of jack white’s appeal was that he came from nothing, he is a self made man.

    but the strokes?

    eh.

unless they create an amazing album, its probably time to bow out gracefully.

furthermore, comparing the strokes and the white stripes you begin to see where the strokes went wrong (besides making horrible follow up albums).

releasing an album on a commercial label after only making ONE indie ep? the white stripes cultivated their sound and recorded dozens of songs before their first semi commercial album elephant. they had already refined and established their sound before hitting critical mass.

the strokes were not given their opportunity.

historically a band that does what the white stripes did often has a longer life span. look at metallica’s magnum opus’s in the 80s (before their horrible post 1990 career), their best work was behind them before they penetrated mainstream culture.

the strokes, perhaps too eager for success, decided not to refine their sound before getting signed to a major label.
