Putting Trend Spotters on the Spot – New York Times
Ms. Ogundehin and four others whose business it is to spot what’s coming next were asked to accompany a reporter on separate rounds of the show and to describe trends they were seeing.
Former Radio-Canada host Dominique Payette was stunned to discover a 10-second clip of her interview with a little girl at the top of “Jumble, Jumble” by the White Stripes.
She is suing the band, demanding $70,000 in damages and the removal of the album “De Stijl” from store shelves.
The song begins with Payette and a little girl talking in French about something the child has experienced “for the first time.”
Fast forward to last Wednesday night, January 30th–the boys were back in town, playing the second night of their record release shows. The levels of backlash had multiplied 10-fold on every blog (including your mom’s)–I wasn’t even aware there could be backlash to the backlash of the backlash that was backlashed against. The crowd was Manhattanites, which automatically means that at least 10% of the audience will be uninterested in the music at any given time.
Run, don’t walk! If you want to catch a glimpse of Mr. Jack White, who is surely supporting his lady love, Karen Elson and her new band “Birds,” playing at the Bowery Ballroom right now. Who else can you spot? Funny man Paul Rudd and the crew from the STELLA television show. Why are they all there? For the Barack Rock event headlined by Ok Go.

Are you winsome? Are you quirky? Do you have thick, chunky bangs and long, pin-straight hair? Methinks you should consider the clothes of Samantha Pleet, designer friend to impeccably dressed indie songstresses Au Revoir Simone.
Ryan just posted a new video 4 hours ago telling the tale of being “cock-blocked by a ghost”–aka, removed from a Fashion Week show guest list by an unnamed person from his past. In the video he sings a song threatening the person who caused his anguish tonight by basically vowing to get them blocked out of as many parties as he can and repeating over and over, “New York City ain’t yours, baby.”
Hmmmm…. what’s your best guess about who was the soul responsible for banning Ryan from carousing with models? [click to continue…]
Vampire Weekend was just on Letterman. If you saw the performance, you’d already know that they performed their TRL-approved single, “A-Punk,” off their recently released self-titled album.
As the performance was taped on Tuesday night, they were wearing the same clothes that folks saw them dressed in later at their Bowery Ballroom show. (See photo below, taken by Abby Braden.)
After performing a crisp, precise version of their song, Dave came over and told them that he enjoyed their performance very much, and that was it! Overall a good performance (albeit they seems a tad bit nervous), well done!
