TMA favorite St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) will be ripping it up at the Bowery Ballroom tonight at a sold out show.
See ya there!
UPDATE: It’s official, St. Vincent can do no wrong. Annie let loose by wearing a charming sleeveless black trapeze dress and let her naturally curly “Tina, diva” hair do its thang, making this quirky beauty quite the belle of the ball.
The night was full of the usual impeccable song interpretations. Just like other great live powerhouse performers like the White Stripes and Ryan Adams, Annie Clark constantly reinvents her own songs during her live show. But the set was not limited to her own material, she put on almost unrecognizable, but no less stunning, cover versions of “Dig a Pony” by The Beatles and “Ring My Bell” by Anita Ward.
More photos and commentary after the jump…
Here’s a very DARK video of her doing the song during another stop on the tour:
The new New York transplant (via Texas) was right at home at the Bowery Ballroom, even admitting that it was her favorite venue in the world. Her inter-song banter was sparse, save for the mention of her move to New York, a weird story about stopping by a taxidermy store that served as a lead-in to “Dig a Pony,” and a mention of her set pieces being stalagmites from a psychedelic acid forest.
But Miss Annie Clark need not say a thing to enrapture the audience, the mere tone of her sweet-sounding voice–whether layered over the romantic tinklings of songs like “Mary Me,” or soaring through a raucous rendition of “Your Lips Are Red,” it need not matter, she had the audience at “hello.”
