I had this kind of revelation last night… I’m starting to feel like I’m “so over” Fall Out Boy. With the White Stripes’ and Ryan Adams’s albums making my ears so so so happy, I haven’t listened to the FOB in a while. I kinda live in my own cave and I don’t go to that many shows anymore, so when I do hear about music and bands–I hope that it’s something cool and useful. But it seems like the only news I hear about Fall Out Boy is who Pete Wentz is dating (Ashlee Simpson), what has-been rocker he wants to be (Bon Jovi), and what his hair currently looks like (flat ironed, long, and annoying).
It’s like, PETE WENTZ, STOP BEING SO FREAKING IRRITATING. I can’t even stand the sound of his droning, nasaly voice anymore.
I’m not sure where this intense hatred for the Wentz spewed from all of a sudden, but I just had to get it off my chest. I’m not sure what this means for the future of So More Scene.
Maybe having been away from “the kids” (both indie and emo) has given me some perspective on what’s retarded and what’s not. Maybe I’ll start paying more attention to music now–my ears are itching for something new and exciting. Or maybe I’ll just keep watching episodes of MythBusters on the Backseat Blogger’s DVD-R.

yeah, although i do have a passion for indie and a touch of emo, i understand where you’re coming from. wentz needs to shut up every once and a while and loose the long hair. he can never pull off a jules or conor.

I agree with you. All the tabloid/media BS about Pete, his girlfriend and his hair are ridiculous. Whom I deem the more interesting and talented members of the band are often not interviewed or overlooked in the media in favor of Pete. I’ve never been part of the “scene”, but I could see why you’d feel “over” it. The saddest part of all of this is these guys are relatively young (except Pete) and they have a lot of creative potential. Pete’s public image could possibly railroad this potential and ruin it for everyone in the band. If he was smart, he’d move back to Chicago and stop making himself available to the Paparazzi. He’s about 3 seconds from making his band a punchline, they better be careful.

Pete Wentz is just awful.
For a start, the ‘Infinity on high’ album really let me down.Its exactly the same as Under the Cork Tree and even includes a track with a “screamo” breakdown much like its predecessor. Most of its songs sound very much the same. Wheras if you listen to their older material its much better sounding and there was less of Pete Wentz face all over it.
I’ve taken to referring to FOB as “Pete Wentz the band” and as stupid as that sounds, its true. I used to prefer them so much before it was all about “how hot pete wentz is”
The scene girls don’t like fall out boy, and don’t respect half the lyrics prese nt. They like Pete Wentz and how he looks without a shirt on.
The rest of the band dont get half the respect they deserve and its just, unfair!

I thought the band had adressed this problem in the video for their recent Uk release. I’m not sure what the song is called but the video features lots of fans calling them sellouts etc.
Now, I thought at first ‘Fair enough! Glad they can see that they’re not the band that they used to be’ and I was generally happy with this fact until the end of the video, where for no apparent reason, the world is yet again treated to Pete Wentz and his semi naked self.
I was less than pleased.

Honestly i listen to Fall Out Boy when i just need some lighthearted fun. Yeah they’re no Elliott Smith but hey they found something that works for them and they’re making a shitload of money so good for them. I’m kinda in two minds about it, I can agree with pretty much both points of view. I’d consider myself a pretty big Fall Out Boy fan, have been for a long time. It’s not so much that Pete makes me hate FOB – I haven’t hated them, never will – because as a musician, he’s in one of my favourite bands. But as a celebrity, he’s immensely irritating.
I agree with you to a certain extent. I think that people are making FOB overrated, obsessing over Pete and his person pictures and doing crap like that. I’m slowly loosing the FOB vibe I once had going. At first, all I could think about was them but then, when other people starting doing the same, I was over it. I have every single song on my iPod, but I dont listen to them because of it.
One more thing, I was watching a countdown and they were announcing that FOB’s video was up next, but instead of saying “Fall Out Boy’s new video”, they said “Pete Wentz and the boys…” I went crazy, cause, come on, give the other band members some credit too…

The real Fall Out Boy fans like everybody in the band because of their great teamwork an awsome music. I liked your blog. It definitely made sense.
In truth, I’m not sure how I feel about Pete Wentz. I feel like the guy has a lot of talent–hence the amazing lyrics–and has no control over what the media puts out, but at the same time it seems as if he likes the attention. He was born to be a celebrity, that’s for sure. Talented, controversial, and–dare I say–cocky?
But who knows? I’m not Pete, so I can’t exactly say anything for sure.
