White Stripes Play Intimate Show for Sweet Old Men

Yes, that’s right–Jack and Meg took some time out of their busy schedule yesterday to play a 6-song gig at the Chelsea Hospital in London for a room of 20 Chelsea Pensioners–ex-servicemen of the British army–and a select group of invited guests.

The gig was set up with just Meg and Jack, a stripped-down drumkit, piano, and a white acoustic guitar with red embellishments.

What did their audience have to say about the White Stripes song? Said one man to the BBC, “It was nice but I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to them.”

Later that same night the Stripes played a show at the 800-capacity Rivoli Ballroom in South London for competition winners and fans, with all proceeds going toward Chelsea Pensioners’ Appeal plus charities supported by the London Pearly Kings And Queens Society.

The Chelsea Hospital gig set list was:
“Apple Blossom”
“Hotel Yorba”
“We’re Going To Be Friends”
“St. James Infirmary Blues”
“You Belong To Me”
“Boll Weevil”

Big thanks to J.S. for the head’s up!
