From the official mailing list:

Hello Children,

We have lots of very exciting news for you today. Can’t wait to hear Icky Thump? Well the wait is over, you can hear a stream of the album in it’s entirety starting tomorrow, June 12th, until June 19th by visiting MTV.com HERE

If you live in the UK, don’t forget to pick up the 3 formats of the “Icky Thump” single that were released in stores today (this includes the white etched 7″ that is the companion to the red “Rag and Bone” 7″ that was released for free on the cover of NME last week).

Heard the stream, now buy the album! The White Stripes web store is now accepting pre-orders for Icky Thump in CD and LP format. For a limited time, orders for the CD will include a free set of 3 button badges. The LP is double vinyl in a gatefold sleeve and is pressed on 180 Gram vinyl and for a limited time will come with a custom peppermint turntable slip mat.

But wait… there’s more. We also have a very limited-edition pressing of the “Icky Thump” single on 12-inch 180 gram vinyl with an etching on the B-side. Only 300 were pressed. Limit one per order.

And lastly, Icky Thump is also available in a new format: Jack and Meg USB drives. Custom created for The White Stripes, each 512-megabyte drive contains a copy of their new album in the Apple Lossless Format. There were only 3,333 of each drive created. CLICK HERE to visit The White Stripes web store.

What do you think about the USB drives? I would love to have a Meg/Jack USB drive to tote around, but I DO wish it was more memory, like at least 1G…will you fork over the dough for the customized drives?

That is extremely cool, way to embrace the modern age (That’s also the name of this blog!).

512 would be big enough for me. I mostly use my 256 to carry papers over to the computer lab so I can use their printer. It’s either that or email stuff to myself.

Not something I’d want to pay $60 for though. At least not to actually use it.

i don’t know anything about it…other than people are saying it’s happening. anyone w/ the 411, please email me or leave a comment!!

You know if it’s true Jack’s going to announce it at the last minute. And I’m reading that it’s invite-only which mean only cool people get to go. So cool people… +1 me! :P

I miss the old WS “Hello Children” messages when they were actually written by Jack and weren’t all about selling stuff.

it’s probably considered a little tight-ass of me to say this – i know i always hate it when someone accuses a band of “selling out” – but i do think it’s a tad lame that The Stripes are making deals with the likes of MTV (who knows, maybe they’ll be guests on Pimp My Ride!). and that they’re playing MSG. i really would rather not hear about anymore deals with a three-letter abbreviation beginning with the letter M. at least until the album comes out.

No, go ahead and say it. I’m with you on this one. MTV is easily the worst thing to happen to music. They even managed to ruin Say What Karaoke when they tried to bring that back.

Geezus. Get over it. Bob Dylan’s music is in Victoria Secret commercials these days for crisakes. I assume you’re gonna say Dylan is a corporate shill and a sell out. Having a “leak” week on MTV isn’t going to compromise the integrity of this band in my eyes. It’s not like they’re going on TRL. How about listening to the new album first and then see if you’re still bitching.

yea, the first thing i thought when reading it was; yes i can listen to the album now.

i dont give a shit what music video channel/ website pays for it, as long as i dont.

In a recent interview, Jack said he didn’t care about being accused of selling out anymore. I guess as an artist, he reached a point where he realized there is a game you have to play if you want to take your music to as many people as possible. Yes, of course, that means more money, but I don’t see Jack as being motivated only by money (perhaps to some extent, yes, but not ONLY by money). And it doesn’t bother me too much that they are shilling stuff as long as it is cool and unusual stuff. (Well, Coca-Cola is not cool and unusual, but let’s not open THAT can of worms again. Please.)
