Last weekend I went on a road trip from New York City to Washington, DC, to Wilmington, NC, to Charleston, SC. We saw this somewhere between North and South Carolina:
Yes, that’s right–a tiny little toy truck mounted onto the huge bed of a big rig! Hahahah.
Here’s another view:
Throughout our trip we continued to see interesting things… [click to continue…]
BaZAM! Watch the video starting at 12 midnight on Thursday via AOL Music.
The premise of the video is Jack is in a fuzzy, drunken state, stumbling around “Mexico”. Meg appears as a mysterious “redhead senorita” with one white eye. The video (which was co-directed by Jack White and the Malloys) is complete with Spanish subtitles! Both Meg and Jack look in fine form. I love watching them play in that little red room. It reminds me of their old press release photos. Boy is it good to have the White Stripes back!
Mark May 29th on your calendars kids, because The Strokes will not only reveal the new website for TheStrokes.com (it’s getting a rehaul), but they will also premiere the alternate video for “You Only Live Once” (that’s YOLO to the fans), directed by Warren Fu, a LucasFilm art director (Star Wars prequels, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Pirates of the Caribbean), on Imeem.com on the same day.
Here’s the press release:
An inspired Fu approached The Strokes as a longtime fan with his fantasy video treatment after instantly falling for the album’s lead track. As he recounts, “The Strokes always had cool and innovative videos for their songs, so when I got their latest album, I was determined to direct a video for them. ‘You Only Live Once’ immediately caught my attention. The notes seemed to fit perfectly like a puzzle, and I fell in love with the song after the first few listens.” With the blessing of the band and the experience at LucasFilms under his belt, Fu immersed the band into his sci fi concept and created a world made up entirely from CGI that pays homage to Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey as well as the NASA spacecrafts of the 1970′s. The result is nothing less than spectacular.
The funny thing is I could SWEAR that a long time ago, during the run of the Strokes’ second album, Room on Fire, Warren did an alternate version of one of the videos or something, because I really think I’ve been to his site before… er, anyone have any idea what I’m talking about?
UPDATE: Yes!!! KPrime sent this link to the pitch video Warren did for YOLO that wasn’t chosen the first time around.
According to the press releases, the White Stripes video for “Icky Thump” will premiere on AOL tomorrow (Thursday)…but here are some stills from the video shoot to wet your appetite.
Methinks it looks all sorts of amazing. I love the last shot with Jack looking past the woman’s leg, and who else is super-excited to see the return of the classic all-red tshirt and pants outfit on Jack? It’s making my obligatory Jack White photo very proud.
However I am concerned about the zebra. I learned on the Colbert Show that they are the nastiest animals in the zoo because they will bite someone until they are dead. Zebras kill more zoo keepers than lions do.

Back from vacation… y’all have been emailing me a lot about the White Stripes show in Nashville as well as the clip they have on Nylon TV via Myspace… as well as this article in Billboard.
