New White Stripes Songs Off “Icky Thump” Leak on the Internet
Three additional songs off the White Stripes’ upcoming album, Icky Thump, have leaked on the internet. The titles are: “Torrential Outpoor Blues”, “Conquest”, and “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do What You You’re Told)”.
I know none of you kids would ever download anything illegally, and even if you did you are planning on buying a copy of the album as soon as it comes out–but theoretically speaking, if you did happen to download the leaked files, what would you have to say about the songs?
In other WS news, you can find them on the cover of the following magazines this month: Nylon, Blackbook, and Dazed and Confused. Check out some scans of some of these cover stories over at Sodwee and the White Stripes.

You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told): This song sounds like what I imagine a Keith Urban song sounds like. It would not be even remotely out of place on a country music station. It’s pure pop country.
300mph Torrential Outpoor Blues: This will probably be the “White Moon” of Icky Thump (i.e. the kind of slow, boring cut you’re most likely to skip over). It kind of reminds me of a Beck song.
Conquest: Jack White, you’re insane. But you might also be brilliant. This song is absolutely tremendous. Who else but the White Stripes could transform an ancient Patti Page song into one of the craziest, most exhuberant tracks of the year? Brilliant.

Conquest: could totally be my little sister’s cheerleading squad’s newest half-time dance song. It’s kind of poppy, mariachi coolness. This could make TRL if there’s a good video for it.
You Don’t Know What Love Is: Thank goodness they live in Nashvegas now! It’s definitely had a good effect on them.
6. Louise | 3:41 pm on May 29th, 2007
Conquest FTW…seriously I have to see them live again just for this song
7. emily | 6:49 pm on May 29th, 2007

8. Disgusted | 8:32 pm on May 29th, 2007
I think it’s reprehensible that everyone is doing their damnest to hear this album before Jack & Meg wish. They chose to put it out June 19th. This is exactly what they refer to in most interviews when they speak of our generation wanting everything NOW, NOW, NOW! If you’re a fan of The White Stripes, show some respect. If not, why the hell are you reading this?
9. Don't act like your any better than the rest of us | 10:31 pm on May 29th, 2007
Oh Shut your gob! They probably leeked it out themselves to try to keep Big Brother Warner from having such a foot hold on their distribution and sales.
10. laura | 8:37 am on May 30th, 2007
@ Disgusted. There have been some European radio stations that have played the new songs way ahead of the release…
11. Charlie | 11:07 am on May 30th, 2007
Bottom line is a)fans will most likely buy the album anyways b)non-fans get to sample it and may actually be enticed to buy the album afterwards. This partial leak is a good thing. Can’t wait to hear Little Cream Soda.

15. Pauline | 2:15 am on May 31st, 2007
Conquest: Brilliant. Nothing more to say.
You don’t know what love is: Kind of poppy, not really a White Stripes song, if you think about it. But I like it.
300mph Torrential Outpoor Blues: Song to skip on the album, as said above.

WITHOUT PREJUDICE
Dear TMA Bloggers,
Kindly remove the unreleased WHITE STRIPES links (including links to rips of “Rag and Bone”) from this thread immediately, failing which - regrettably - a DMCA notification shall be forwarded to the site and take-down action shall follow : naturally, however, we hope that this shall not prove to be necessary.
As you will know by now, traffic on this (unreleased) album is being monitored and removed … .. and not just by Web Sheriff, but also by Warners and their attorneys so, if you have to indulge in this activity (which Jack and Meg would rather you didn’t), then do it off-line / do not ‘broadcast’ it. Otherwise your details will be harvested and you may be hearing from Warners and / or the RIAA.
On behalf of the artist’s label, we do appreciate that - of course - you are a fans of / are promoting THE WHITE STRIPES but, by the same token, you must also appreciate that, by posting a pirate copy of the album or tracks from the album pre-release (or linking to pirate copies), you are potentially causing considerable inconvenience and we are sure that you would not want to be personally responsible (or liable) for all of the resulting damage.
Thank you for respecting the artist’s and label’s wishes and, if you want good quality, non-pirated preview tracks, NME magazine in conjunction with XL Recordings are offering “Icky Thump” (the single) and “Rag and Bone” on coloured vinyl with today’s issue of NME - which. If you want these tracks before release, simply buy / get hold of a copy of NME, but do not take it upon yourselves to then put these tracks into unauthorised, digital distribution … .. not only is this not reciprocating the gesture of trust inherent in giving these vinyl, collectors’ items to fans ahead of release, but you’re also highly likely to land yourselves in trouble further down the line when other ‘parties’ take-over the role of rights enforcement (with very different methods).
Whilst writing, we’d add that we’re not at all against free music but, at the end of the day, it should be (and is) the artist’s decision as to whether or not they effectively allow the unauthorised distribution of their album on-line before release, as it’s THEIR MUSIC !! For the avoidance of doubt, the recent Q101 broadcast was NOT authorised (so there are no double standards applying here).
As you will appreciate, this e-mail - containing, as it does, a position that is potentially prejudicial to our clients’ open / formal position - is written on a without prejudice basis and, as such, all of our clients’ accumulated, worldwide rights remain strictly reserved : please excuse this required formality.
With Thanks & Regards,
WEB SHERIFF
