I got a concerned email from reader L about Julian’s “new white trash/metal look”, with a link to these paparazzi shots of Julian and Juliet from an SNL Afterparty last weekend.
The reader seemed troubled by the appearance of a zip-up Metallica jacket in combination with dirty white hightops, an ill-fitting tshirt, black baggy jeans, and a chain around his neck. And to top it all off, long stringy hair.
Are you worried too, my friends? I think he looks quite happy, so who cares? But I would love to see the return of a black leather jacket and/or the military jacket–or is that too My Chemical Romance now?

On a different note: I’d never really seen Juliet’s face before, and she’s not all that bad looking. She’s got kind of a 70′s vibe going on there though.

I do agree Wayne she does look like Marsha B. Juliet has really scrubbed up, she looks all willowy and fragile and i love how what she’s wearing is simple but really suits her. As for Julian i think he really can’t give a fuck, and that’s what makes him – and what made him and the strokes boys appealing in the first place… i mean albert is the real stylish one but even then you dont’ think he spends days upon days figuring out what to wear, it’s all just impulsive style.
I think it really shows how comfortable Julian is in himself that he finds he doesn’t have to look like a fucking rockstar to go out about town on evening stroll (to SNL) with his wife.
And yes, i mean we strokes fans like to speculate about all sorts of strokes realted things as we probably feel that it allows us to feel closer to them, it’s almost like that way we know them – and fuck who wouldn’t want to, as sad and pathetic that sounds.

I agree that fans should be more concerned with the music Julian makes, but let’s be honest the guy had a way better sense of style back when Is This It? and Room On Fire came out. The music in general was better back then. In my opinion their best album will always be Is This It? it was the album that brought them to fame and they’ll always be remembered mostly by their first album and their original sense of style: the vintage look, the tube jeans, the cool military jackets, Nikolai’s jersey, the old school suits, etc.

a mi opinion la ropa es un plano muy secundario sus canciones y como le llegan a la gente y como en mi caso cambiar la vida ya que julian bueno the strokes en general son la felicidad de mi vida eso e slo importante ….
ellos tienen un estilo hermoso original y con ese toque de recien levantados lo que los hace muy especial
noc en definitiva no critiques algo tan superficial y admira lo hermosa que es esta banda

Maybe some of the critiques are a bit harsh, as it can’t be denied that he does look happy. And if he is happy he will make another album. So let the guy wear what he wants, huh? He will naturally revert to sexy tour mode when the time comes. Have faith.
