Going through all my old posts made me curious to check up on some bands I haven’t heard from in a while. I just went to the Starsailor site, and low and behold, singer James Walsh just posted an update!
Sounds like they are getting ready to record another album!
What an amazing few weeks we have had!
Firstly we found a great little place near Henley to write and record songs for our next album. We are now in great shape with around 15 songs written but we will continue doing tracks until we are happy we have got the best songs we could possibly write. The last 4 tracks we did are called: 1) Let Go 2) Do You Believe In Love? 3) Won’t Stop Now and 4) Change My Mind.
I think we have struck a great balance between our heavier side and our more emotional downbeat side. There are some stompers certainly but also the ballads are back! I can’t wait for you to be able to hear some of these songs and we hope to be able to play them live for you in the near future.
Thanks to all the staff in the local pub who kept us fed and watered during the time we spent in Henley and also to Barriemore Barlow (drummer with Jethro Tull!) whose recording/rehearsal space we were using.

I’ve been going through all my first posts, trying to categorize them and re-format them so they don’t look all wonky, and I’ve been reading some of THE MOST HILARIOUS posts ever.
You know, I started this site over five years ago when I was in college, and it’s just so amusing to read the types of things I was writing about and how I reacted to them. It seems as though in 2001 I *REALLY REALLY* liked The Strokes and White Stripes… Hahah. What a shocker.
Here are some of the more interesting posts I’ve come across. Relive “the good old days” with me, will ya?
The White Stripes signed their V2 Record deal in November 2001, taking them off indie label, Sympathy for the Record Industry.
The first time I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, they were opening up for the Moldy Peaches at the Mercury Lounge.
I found a photo of Julian Casablancas’s parents.
I used to really hate Ryan Adams. Then one night I was so impressed by his idiocy that I began to like him. It’s amazing…you can see the exact moment I switched over to loving Ryan Adams.
I got stabbed at a Strokes show on Long Island.

Did you know that Bob Dylan wrote “Golddigger”, “Paradise City”, and “My Humps”? Me either. But according to this video, Bob Dylan wrote every popular song in the last 35 years. Yes, even his 1961 self-admitted clunker, “Had a Bad Day”…
As you may have guessed by now, this is was a joke entirely produced by Super Deluxe, a new website determined on bringing you “top-quality comedy videos”.
I think this video works because after decades of contributing some of the most influential pop/folk/rock music ever created, critics have developed an instantaneous reverential tone when talking about Dylan. Praise for Dylan’s past work is well deserved, but blanketing statements of his God-like greatness is not uncommon. But this video challenges and parodies that “almighty” perception of the legendary musician.
Seriously, if Dylan wrote crappy Top 40 hits, would you hate them (or love them) just the same? Would Dylan still be considered as great of a musician if he had written a song that helped the Black Eyed Peas storm the charts?
So what do you think of the comedic stab at Bob Zimmerman? Yay or nay?
But what about the all-time funniest/cringe-worthy Bob Dylan moment ever captured on film?

Helloooooo! Who else saw Christopher Richardson–that Justin Timberlake look- and SOUND-a-like–during tonight’s American Idol Season 6 auditions? (What! I was doing laundry, ok?)
You know, the one wearing the green shirt and ::shudders:: tan shorts? He’s my new imaginary reality TV boyfriend. I hope he makes it to the next round…even though he said that he was singing a song that was “interpetated”. As Miss Paula Abdul said, “the girls are going to looooove him.” And hellz yes, she was correct.

And as we all hoped, he’s got a MySpace page…with only one friend. Wah waaaah. And judging by the photos, looks like he dressed up as JT and/or Robin Thicke (yes, as in Growing Pains Alan Thicke’s son) for Halloween or something. Compare with:

and this.
Will his nickname be “Chrissy Rich”? “Christoson”?
Missed Chris? Go ahead and watch his audition…

In 2005 I went to go see Claire Danes perform a dance piece called “Christina Olson: American Model” at PS 122. Zac Posen was there with flowers. Claire Danes came incredibly close to my face. I was confused.

Now that Danes is no longer a homewrecker (when you are no longer with your homewreck-ee, does that still make you a homewrecker? Like once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic?)–now rid of Billy Crudup–she is free to dance unfettered by gossip. (Ok, not entirely true, gossips say her appropriately named reported beau, Hugh Dancy, swings both ways.) This time with childhood friend Ariel Rogoff Flavin in a piece called “Edith & Jenny” choreographed by Ariel’s mother, Tamar Rogoff.
Performances are January 26- Feb 4. Buy tickets on the PS 122 site.

I was just talking about Yoko Ono today and I did a search on YouTube for her and I stumbled across this footage of Yoko Ono performing “Cut Piece” in 1965 (pre-John Lennon) at New York’s Carnegie Hall. In the work she sits motionless on stage as members of the audience come up and cut away pieces of her clothing until she was naked.
Here’s a video. Don’t worry, it’s Safe for Work:
