Band of the Day: The Ettes
NAME: The Ettes
HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, CA via NYC
WEBSITE: http://www.theettes.com/

HOW I HEARD ABOUT THEM: Their bassist, Jem, wrote me an email.
LATEST RELEASE: Shake the Dust [BUY]
SONG LISTENED TO: “Dead and Gone” [LISTEN]
WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE: Good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll with a sexy swinging 60s girl band style. If Quentin Tarantino got a listen to their stuff, he’d be begging them to let him use a track for his next movie. They’re on infamous Detroit-heavy music label (and former home of the White Stripes), Sympathy for the Record Industry, if that gives you a sense of what they’re like. They don’t list them under influences, but they do kinda sound like a female-fronted version of the Kinks. They recorded the album at Toe Rag Studios–the same place Jack and Meg did Elephant.
1 to 5 RATING: 4

it may seem like sympathy is detroit based…. but i’m pretty sure it’s actually from cali. long beach, california. though they are one of the only record lables that put(s) out all that detroit rock stuff.
