Band of the Day: The End of the World

Yesterday I was talking to my friend Jen (of The Music Slut) after The View show at Mercury Lounge, and she was saying how she wanted to have some type of goal for this year. I nodded and didn’t really say anything, but today I was thinking I too want to have a goal–something to keep me motivated. I don’t really ever have New Year’s resolutions, so I’ve informally decided to make getting a New Year’s resolution as this year’s resolution.

On the way home today I decided maybe I should try to listen to one new band every day. I get tons and tons of CDs and press releases, but with there only being 24 hours in the day, I often don’t get enough time to listen carefully through all of them and write long, interesting reviews. So I’ve decided I’m going to try to listen to at least one new SONG from a different band every day and do a quickie write-up.

This might be a fantastical failure, but I’m going to try.

Here goes nothing. For the first band of the day:

NAME:
The End of the World
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, NY, USA
WEBSITE: http://www.theendoftheworld.net/
HOW I FOUND THEM: I was doing a Google news search for “Julian Casablancas” and their Onion AV Club review came up as the first hit.
LATEST RELEASE: You’re Making It Come Alive
SONG LISTENED TO: “Last Cast” [MP3]
WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE: Julian Casablancas’s slightly more indie-sounding prodigies. Jangly drums, lead singer has a screamy/speaky voice, I can’t help but giggle every time he says “chaise”
THUMB UP OR DOWN?: Up
OTHER BLOGS THAT HAVE TALKED ABOUT THEM: Hits in the Car
LISTEN TO MORE: “Show Your Age” [MP3], Myspace

    Hey modern age,
Nice pick. I love these guys. Went to their record release party over at mercury in october and it was fantastic. Picked up the record there and I have to say, it really does the trick.
