How awesome is Katie Leung (who plays Cho Chang in the new Harry Potter movie) and her “skunk”/”shepherd’s pie” hair, black and white stripy sweater, and black riding boots? She’s so ready to hit up MisShapes after Hogwart’s gets out for Christmas break. Rock it! Pic from Oh No They Didn’t!.

The Needs (formerly Special Needs) = The Libertines – the drug arrests + Kaiser Chiefs‘ fashion sense + Maximo Park‘s flamboyant style. Right now I’m playing their song “Francesca” which has a great punky and punchy first 30 seconds. I love the repetition of “15! 16!” Their song “The Winter Gardens” is also particularly good. They mix doo-wop music with classic rock guitar riffs with a slightly unpolished sound. It’s like The Sights meets The Five Saints.
I have to give big ups to Mr. Andrew Kendall for posting beautiful pics of the band (before the tragic theft of his camera equipment) and posting the band’s MP3s. Check ‘em out “Francesca” for yourself via the link below.

…side tooth. Apparently the nerve in Adam Green’s tooth died and the tooth fell out. He has since had a denture-like device installed to keep the tooth filling the canyon-sized gap in his grin.

Last Friday I went to see a hilarious comedy show by Demetri Martin entitled “These Are Jokes.” I first came to know about him only a few months ago after catching one of his specials on Comedy Central. The only way I can describe Demetri Martin is by saying the following: Imagine if Adam Green and Jason Schwartzman had a baby boy, and that baby boy was ridiculously funny and played guitar, keyboards, and a glokenshpeal while telling jokes. That would be Demetri. You can catch his show through November 29th at the Village Theatre in Greenwich Village. Buy tickets for 15 dollars ahead of time via Ticketweb. The Friday night I went, it was totally sold out and people had to end up buying standing room only tickets.
On a side note, Demetri rides a longboard and the dude with the really blue eyes from “Ed” was at the same show I went to.
Trust me, you must go. You will never look at a double hawk in the same way.
Web Vomit reports that The Muldoons 7″ is now available on the Cass Record Web site for a total of 5 US Dollars (that’s with shipping and handling)–you can’t beat that.
I know a lot of people have been dissing on the less than spectacular set of Strokes songs to “leak” onto the Internet, but I got to take a moment out to say I absolutely love “Razor Blade.” Some say the chorus sounds like a speeded up version of Barry Manilow’s “Mandy,”…I do have to admit I hear what y’all are talking about, but what’s original to the song is the fantastic lyrics of the chorus, “My feelings are more important than yours/ Drop dead, I won’t care, I won’t worry.” How brilliant is that? It’s as if Avril Lavigne co-wrote the song! (And yes, that’s a good thing…I think.)

Umm…anyone want to get started on this?

Julian rocked a military-style jacket with a red cross.

More pictures of The Strokes in Brazil: Here and here.
The Strokes have unveiled a “fun new song” during a recent show this weekend in Brazil named “Hawaii Aloha.” Musically it sounds exactly how you would expect it to–like Julian Casablancas’ ode to Dick Dale. I claim it sounds like The Beach Boys circa “The Stamos Years.” Thanks to Hightower for the link.

Madge, aka the Mother of Reinvention, aka MADONNA, did INDEED DJ MisShapes last night. Picture stollen from Gurj via Ultra. Big ups to the Queen of Pop for givin a nod to the NYC club kids.
Happy birthday Geo!
BTW, don’t forget to check out the latest issue of Paper w/ Citizens Band on the cover. There’s a multi-page fashion spread featuring the MisShapes kids. They look so fabulous. Congrats kids!
Another Strokes song, “Razor Blade,” is also out on the internet. This is starting to irritate me like the “one more thing” Apple product release stunts.
But the song, I kinda like it. Only got a chance to listen to it once, but at least it has a somewhat sensible story line.
