Jack and Meg Officially Walk with a Ghost

Breaking news, some rumors have been flying around regarding The White Stripes officially releasing their rockin’ cover of Tegan and Sara’s “Walking with a Ghost.” Well…turns out the rumors are true. Word on the street is the single will be put in stores wrapped with their latest album, Get Behind Me, for a limited time. After that, it will be released with 4 live songs as a single. Expect word from more reliable sources than myself sooner than later.

Who else is psyched?

No more listening to your low-quality bootleg of the Stripes doing the song live…I have the mp3 of “Walking with a Ghost” here for you to download, but make sure to go out and buy the single when it comes out. How else are Jack and Meg going to continue to be able to afford those red, white, and black outfits?

MP3 download: “Walking with a Ghost” by The White Stripes (cover of Tegan and Sara) (Sorry guys, had to take it down. You’re just going to have to shell out some minimal clams to get a listen.)

UPDATE: According to a post on 10/26 on the official Tega and Sara Web site: “The White Stripes have recorded a version of Tegan and Sara’s ‘Walking with a Ghost’ and will be releasing it to radio this week. The track will be available through iTunes on Nov 14 and at US retail as part of a special single release on Dec 6.”

SECOND UPDATE: Ok, you can stream the song right here.

thanks so much for the song! i’ve worn out my live version (or would have if it was on a cassette…)

What a coincidence! I had been searching for a copy of the live version after hearing it at the new york show. I guess I am not the only one that liked the song. I thought it was an interesting choice of covers to do.

this song seems so appropriate for Halloween.
    haunting … but wow!
    Jack sure shreds that guitar!
and his voice rises and falls so
    remarkably!
    thanks for the link !!

This sucks ass. Not only that, this doesn’t seem too fair to Tegan and Sara to me. What if people like the White Stripes version better? That ain’t right. This was a stupid idea.

wow vince you’re stupid. First of all, this song is much better then Tegan & Sara’s version. Second, who cares if someone likes The White Stripes version better than the original, that makes no sense.

I agree, this makes no sense. So no one should ever improve on anything because it’s unfair to the original performers? Now, covers, or remakes of films, etc., often suck in comparison to the original, and that does bother me. Why redo something if it’s not better? But I can’t imagine saying to someone, “You can’t cover that song! People might like it better than the original!” LOL.

drats, i was too late! i’m glad more people are into tegan & sara. though i much preferred their last album rather than the new one.

This was great. Jack’s voice sounds really good. Not to be a mom, but quitting smoking seems to have helped him do the vocal swoops he likes to do without cracking. (His own reasoning, btw, I’m only just now noticing the extent that it helped.)

“They covered our song ‘Walking With a Ghost’,” said Sara. “I didn’t realize our songs would be good enough to cover. It’s like opening a different door in my head. Its amazing.”

Wow, I’m just so impressed that Tegan and Sara got covered. Even if people like this version better, they can only benifit from the exposure, so I’m excited for them. I myself like the original better, but I heard it first and they are my fav band so I can be a bit biased!

people are pretty dillusional when it comes to the white stripes. this cover is terrible.

  23. 23. Anonymous | 10:45 am on November 1st, 2005

this cover is horrible! it wasn’t tegan and sara’s best song, but the stripes didn’t made it better, it’s much worse..

I have to agree, I much prefer the original. I miss the keyboards and that amazing bass sound and the vocals are just annoying.
