Alive and Sleeping

We realize some of you may have been wondering what the hell we’ve been doing since we haven’t been updating the site. Well this weekend we made a renegade trip to Washington, D.C. in which we spent more time traveling than we did actually being awake in D.C. We saw Bethesda, Georgetown, and College Park in the dark.

In music news, we just spent the last 24 hours listening to Tori Amos over and over and over. Yeah, we can’t believe it either.

Best thing we’ve heard all week is the first track off the new self-titled Sights album. You may remember The Sights from such things as…being from Detroit. We’ve seen them maybe 3 or 4 times before and The Sights really are a great live rock ‘n’ roll band. But anyway, the new song is called “I’m Gonna Live the Life I Sing about In My Songs” and it f-cking rocks!

Today we also checked out the Kings of Leon video, “The Bucket”, which is the first single off their new album Aha Shake Heartbreak [128 ram | 128 mp4.mov | 128 asx]. (The album drops Feb 22.) Patrick Daughters directed the vid. Can anyone tell us when KoL decided to sound like The Strokes meets Aerosmith? Holy crap! So much like The Strokes they even went to the trouble of re-creating the video for “Reptilia.” Lord knows why, because that video was pretty awful. Hopefully the rest of the album lays off The Strokes and brings back the patented backwater hick sound the KoL are so good at.

Ok, we just watched the “Reptilia” video again. It really isn’t that bad.

Man, that sucks that you Americans have to wait so long for A-Ha Shake Heartbreak to come out.

I’ve had it for like nearly three months now!

It’s good though, it’s so good. I don’t find it that Strokesy either, in parts yeah, but mostly not really.

i’m going to live the live i sing about in my song is actually a b side to the be like normal 7″ released awhile back. that said, it is going to be track 8 ? i think? on the new LP.

the full lp is positively amazing. i strongly encourage you to see them live, because some of the stuff is just, for lack of better words, fucking awesome.

Unfortunately the new kings record sounds almost EXACTLY like the last strokes record. Gulp. They should have mimicked a more complex band. It really doesn’t work for them. The best moments on the new LP occur when the boys get back to their southern roots (like “pistol of fire” and “milk”) but these are few and far apart.

i know that last chance was on ‘got what we want,’ but it definitely got a bit of a makeover. aside from that and “live the life,” the rest are previously unreleased. that’s 2 out of… 12 tracks (13 you count the hidden but at the end of tr 12.) some of the riffs are weirdly and suspiciously familiar. which is probably going to make for some good entertainment in the coming months.

    -anon from above.

“Live the Life” is the Sights’ version of the traditional song by TA Dorsey. There are a lot of versions of the song out there — The Oblivians did it on their LP “Play 9 Songs With Mr. Quintron.”

But yes, it’s track 8 on the new record and has been out as a B-side for over a year. The entire record is really fantastic. It’ll be out in April, I believe.
