I was determined to lead the rest of my life NOT enjoying The
Libertines
b/c I’ve never been into them and I can’t keep track of
whether or not Pete is in jail or not, but thanks to you I’m totally
obsessed w/ the song “Can’t Stand Me Now.”

I hate you, you dirty bitch.

Fuming mad with hate/love,

mm

We hate to say it, but that song is pretty damn good. There are also some other good songs off the new Libertines album (The Libertines). More after we get to really listen to it. The album drops on the 31st of this month.

In other news, The Von Bondies play Irving on September 17. (Check out the VB Photo Blog!) Sondre Lerche plays Southpaw (yes, that’s Brooklyn) on October 19.

ALREADY FAMOUS

The MisShapes trio gets some bold-faced love in Tricia Romano’s “Fly Life” in the Village Voice.

“…as for the Williamsburg hipsters, whose messages are expressed in pop culture references just as surely as they are immortalized on fliers, some might say the moral is that getting older is like skateboarding: it is not a crime. Others might just say we built this city on rock ‘n’ roll.” What the FUCK is the NYT talking about?!?!? This piece is like verbal vomit. I can’t make any sense of it. Link from Gawker.

MUSIC NEWS

BRMC don’t love the cock.

The Strokes do an encore and cover GBV and The Clash.

The Music show on Wed at Bowery Ballroom was super-fun, and we made it through the whole thing without passing out once! (Luckily we did not eat at Kate’s Joint.) We loved Robert’s vocals, he’s got such a wonderful, soaring quality to his vox. Mid-way through the set we realized that everyone is The Music is a child! Seriously, how old are they? They look like they’re all 14 years old!

Anyway, the best part of the evening was when we made our way up to the front to dance with Ultra, Sarah, Karen (who totally grabbed our ass), Niki, and anyone else we missed. While we were dancing, we noticed there was some totally awesome dude dead center in the front wearing a flippin’ yarmulke atop his brown poofy hair. Dude was pogoing so hard as he held up his cameraphone, trying to take pictures of the band to send to his friends from Yeshiva University. Does it get any better than having a crazy yarmulke-wearing, cameraphone-toting pogo dancer in the audience? We think not. Awesome to see the whole ol’ skool crew there. Bisous!

THE OLSENS HAVE LANDED

Expect loads more MK and A sightings as NYU is just about ready to start!

In other news, Britney needs to wash her mouth out with warm soap and water. In a recent interview, when asked what the last thing in her mouth was, she replied “a dildo.” Maybe it’s a new vocal warm-up method.

Paris Hilton is on the cover of the new issue of Elle (UK edition). She looks like an alien. Who is the photo editor?!?! Jesus.

SOOO CUTE

Sondre Lerche has up new pictures of him looking cute or something.

This weekend we watched Eurotrip. Immediately before watching it we texted Uncle Grambo to alert him of our viewage of Michelle Trachtenbest.

Download a high quality MP3 of Franz Ferdinand‘s “Tell Her Tonight” (in German) off their site. This is being made available for free due to some weird “chart eligability” thingamabob.

CALLING ALL POOR PLAYYYAAAZZZ!

Find out the do’s of being a Broke-BallaHolic. Keep the ladies thinkin’ y’all fly and shit, and keep the style comin’.

On Friday we visited our friend Richard at his groovy East Village vintage
clothing store, Metropolis. Years ago, when we were still attending
college, we used to live in a dorm room that was located directly above
Richard’s store. Apparently during the time when we were living there, our
long showers caused leaks in the ceilings of Metropolis. Richard was kind
enough to inform us that ever since we moved out there the sogginess has
stopped.

Besides our shower habits, we were talking about neighborhoods in NYC.
Richard was trying to convince us that we should move to Brooklyn–Bushwick
in particular. “It’s very hip right now…all the hip kids are moving there,”
said Richard. We shook our head and said, “No no, we’re not very hip at
all, and I don’t want to be hip.” Richard thought about it for a second
and retorted, “Oh I see, you’re being hip by not wanting to be hip…”
Shaking our head again we replied, “No that’s not it. I’m just not sure
that those people are ‘hip’ so much as they’ve got nothing better to do.”
We didn’t think this sounded particularly astute or insightful, but Richard
thought otherwise, “That’s the best description of hip! I’m going to start
using that.” Ah, flattery will get you everywhere, but it will not get us to Bushwick.

DUDE, WHERE’S MY DECK?

Why is Paris Hilton hanging out with Chad Muska?

Listen to the Sex Pistols being interviewed…as they were in 1977.

While we’re on the British, listen to our favorite Brown, Imran Ahmed, talk about hot new bands on Steve Lamacq. Notice how he pretends to know shit about music. (Jump 3 hours and 15 minutes into it.)

Ryan McGinley’s ode to men in Speedos. Link from Soviet Panda.
