BRAINWASHED AT NYU

“I wasn’t afraid of being thrown out of the library,” he said. “I could have slept in the park. My worst fear was getting kicked out of N.Y.U. I love this school.” WHAT IS THIS SHIT? Bobst Boy has totally sold out.

YOU’RE A DOG RUN

Parker Posey

Today we saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Michel Gondry’s new film. From the man who brought you the singing Jack White Lego, brings you Kate Winslet with Manic Panic hair, Jim Carrey acting, and Elijah Wood as a supposedly straight man-child. It was so sad in a kind of tragicly beautiful way, we cried through the whole thing. Gondry has such a wonderful, child-like imagination, and a sensitivity that translates through his work.

Next movie: Young Adam

Also Uncle Grambo said much was revealed this weekend. “What’s Happening To Me?” = total buzz.

DON’T LEAVE ME HANGING ON THE TELEPHONE

For those lucky enough to already have purchased tickets to the almost-sold-out Coachella music festival, you can sign up for What’s Up Coachella! It’ll send you wireless updates throughout the course of the fest — so you can find out when Beck is giving that secret concert in the Sahara tent.

Art gets super-sized.

THE SIMPLE THINGS

Last night we fell asleep with the TV on, and at first we woke up around 3am to some slasher movie… then again around 4 am to some adventure travel show, then around 6 we woke up to the news, and we vaguely heard something about a new museum entrance opening up somewhere in New York, and how they were having special events and something like that. So around 7 we got up and found out what museum was showcasing their new, glass-adorned entrance, and low-and-behold, it was the Brooklyn Museum. Since the weatherman said it was going to be totally awesome out today, we decided to go and check out the Open! event and the new Open House exhibit.

It was so totally beautiful! Trees in bloom, blue sky, the delighted squeals of little children, old people in motorized scooters, Brooklyn hipsters, mommies with prams, etc. Yay! Spring is here! (to stay?)

One thing we learned today is that kids love running away from H20 (see below), so instead of buying them fancy toys, just throw buckets of water at them. Hours of fun.

Oooh, water
Run little man, run
Mmm, beer

YOU’LL NEVER DREAM OF BREAKING THIS FIXATION

MUSE @ Bowery Ballroom, April 14, 2004. More MUSE pictures from our friend Mediaeater. Commentary by Jason, Karen, and Ultra. P.S. — Are we the only ones who thought the drummer was not a “Jerry Kid”, but actually a little bit cute?!?; Imran will not be allowed in The Slants, he belongs in The Browns.

OH THE HORROR!

Spike and Karen? Please, say it ain’t so…

Spike’s likes: Sofia Coppola’s estranged husband, Spike Jonze, hasn’t let any grass grow under his feet since their December separation. The 34-year-old Jonze, director of “Adaptation,” has apparently taken up with Karen O, the raven-haired lead singer of art-rock band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. A Lowdown spy spotted the pair in full canoodle at the SoHo bar Pravda the other night. Jonze, whose real name is Adam Spiegel (as befitting an heir of the catalogue company), was married to Coppola for four years. Many in the film industry speculate Jonze was the inspiration for the shallow and self-absorbed director-husband in Coppola’s Oscar-winning film, “Lost in Translation.” Reps for Coppola, Jonze and Karen O didn’t return calls for comment yesterday.
